Very clear. A friend of mine dropped her keys in the marina right in downtown and she could see them 10 feet down. Not that that helped, or anything. 15 miles up the channel, the Mendenhall River empties into the channel. Up there, the glacial till is thick and the water very murky. People who are unfamiliar get trapped there during low tides every summer. One hapless sailor from "outside" got grounded and was shocked a couple of hours later when a local walked by his keeled over sailboat heading over to a pub on the other side of the channel.
