Couldn't disagree more. The decades of economic pressure exerted on the USSR from military spending is what forced their demise imo. Left unabated and without this pressure, how much longer would half of Europe suffered? How much more of it? What would stopped the USSR from rolling into Western Europe? South America? Without the US threat, would they have stopped at conventional weapons in Afghanistan?

Imagine if that mentality had prevailed regarding involvement in the European campaign in WWII?
