I recall that OPEC pretty much likes to keep the price of a barrel in the vicinity of $21/barrel. Below $21/barrel lower yield wells [typically west Texas] become unprofitable. While oil prices are volatile, they'll tend to pump down prices if the volume of west Texas crude goes up...

There was a story last year that the Administration prefferred the price of oil to be above $21/barrel, so it would encourage oil exploration.

That is the futures price, not the spot price. The table had current prices for each month.......
