X-windows is one of the most brain-dead products ever, which also goes to show that inferior products often survive, monopoly or not. Excuse me Alomex, I believe you're highly mistaken. X-windows was an excellent idea and still is today. What do you think Microsoft Terminal Server or Citrix Metaframe really are? They're X-windows wannabes with the difference that the server code runs in Microsoft OS and that they're primitive in design compared to X-windows. Btw, when the X-terminals had the required computing and graphics power (Tektronix terminals were the best at that), you could really get alot of CAD users running off the same server. Lower workstation and PC costs eventually eroded the widespread usage.
