Read their article----is it fair to say that they think SGI is finished? And of course the other question---who are they?

SGI had their hard times. SGI provides a unique melding of applications and graphics performance that is independent in a sense of the OS and the CPU. Sun sells vanilla unix boxes. Linux boxes based on linux are also vanilla unix. IBM now sells Linux on main frames. In college all are exposed to Linux as a unix more so than any other unix.

I do see the possibility of Linux hurting Sun. The Itanium will create even more potent linux boxes. The fact that IBM uses Linux on Main Frames ends most perception of some inferiority in Linux.

SGI also has high compute power with the lowest energy density that may open DOD embedded applications.
