FROM THE OFFICE OF STRATEGIC STUPID WHITE MEN

Copied from the Resident Shrub thread:

This is rich:

msnbc.com

<Snip>
Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore is getting some harsh words from foes over his new book, “Stupid White Men.” “The right wing nuts have put out a call to arms on their Web sites to jam the Amazon site with bad reviews of the book,” he alleges in a newsletter. Among the less-than-glowing reviews: “Unpatriotic, Marxist drivel written by a spoiled brat, baby boomer.” “Michael Moore cannot even compose sentances.” [sic] Nevertheless, “Stupid White Men” ranked No. 1 on Amazon on Monday. . . .

Here's the book:

Stupid White Men ...and Other Sorry Excuses for the State of the Nation!
by Michael Moore

amazon.com.

Here's what smart people are reading:

Marie Brenner, in Vanity Fair, March, 2002.

She's currently on C-SPAN. She's terrific. Recommends this book, currently #1 in Houston:

The Financier
by Theodore Dreiser

amazon.com.

Ms. Brenner says that Ken Lay is like Dreiser's Financier, in that he always told 90% of the truth to everybody, but it was never the same 90%, nor did he ever tell anyone 100% of the truth. A lot of truth to that view, methinks.

R.

Zim: I believe 9-11 was allowed to happen because it served the goals of Bush & Co.

The military was ordered to stand down.

I posted the "Operation Northwoods" links to make the point that such an idea is not as outrageous or as unimaginable as it sounds.

They KNEW something big in the way of a terrorist attack was about to happen. They also knew it would involve aircraft being used as flying bombs. Witness the unusual security measures that were put in place to protect Bush at the economic summit in Genoa - back in July of that year. They actually closed off the air-space, installed surface-to-air missles & batteries of anti-aircraft guns, stingers, etc. At the time everyone thought it was excessive and weird.

There is also evidence that they became aware of the hijackings much earlier in the morning than they claimed. There are all sorts of inconsistencies in the official story as to when Bush found out about it. The military had plenty of time to take care of ALL the planes - but they did not. I think it's reasonable to assume that they were told to stand down.

There's more - but I think it's very likely they let it happen. I don't believe our Govt. had anything to do w/ the actual planning of 9-11 - just allowed the terrorists to carry out their plan because they wanted an event that would provide the political cover needed to carry out their agenda. And it's worked so far...

Here's my comment:

I was watching CNBC on October 25, 1999. The day Payne Stewart died. He was being shadowed by two F-16s, according to reports that the network was providing. They were scrambled nearly as soon as the plane deviated off course and the controllers couldn't reach the pilot. I've been searching for records of the Air Force's coverage of the event. They are unavailable on the Web, AFAIK. But those fighter jets were scrambled almost immediately as soon as there was any indication of trouble.

Compare that level of response to what occurred on 9/11 and the speculation of the Yahoo poster begins to make a lot of sense. If you can find anything on the record regarding the response of the Civil Air Patrol and USAF on 10/25/99 vis a vis 9/11/01 I'd be most appreciative. I have no good resources to discover whether the military was told to stand down. But it sure looks like it to me.

So, Kodiak,

Got any ideas how I go about getting FOIA look sees into the records of the appropriate authorities, be they Air National Guard or USAF for these two dates. Could be quite informative. Don't you think?

Cordially, Ray
