The child cannot tell another child there is a God and ask me to to intervene on their side to tell a Buddhist that there is a God- THAT is what happened. They can discuss God all they want out on the playground- if they don't get abusive about it. If they get abusive no doubt a yard duty will be called and they will end up sitting in the office.

God, in a multireligious school, is inherently divisive, and at second grade level discussing mulitreligiousness could really have some parents screaming mad. We have a great many standards to teach, and since God is not one of them, he is not part of our core,. At the high school level such discussions are possible, and I encourage them. I wouldn't discuss sexuality with a second grader either. Some parents may choose to do this at home, but it is not in my purview, and I wouldn't have a discussion on that controversial topic either- and again, our district has a directive on this. Sexual abuse reporting is of course a bit different, and is well defined.
