Better than analysts' consensus as well. Cymer was trading about $37 after hours.

RESEARCH ALERT-Merrill raises Cymer rating to ``buy''
NEW YORK, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch on Wednesday said it raised its mid-term rating on Cymer Inc. (NasdaqNM:CYMI - news), which provides light sources used in semiconductor manufacturing, to a ``buy'' from a ``neutral'' following the company's fourth-quarter results.

Cymer on Tuesday said it posted a loss of 6 cents per share in the fourth quarter, down from a profit of 68 cents per share in the year-earlier quarter. The loss was narrower than the consensus estimate for a 9 cent per share loss, Merrill said.

Cymer shares were up 7 percent, or $2.69, at $38.44 in morning Nasdaq trading.
