I didn't know that it was common on SI to do that. Is it SOP to continue the argument or insults after the person is silenced?

The point of moderating off someone after an argument was concluded, or in the middle of an argument if you discontinued the argument/insults yourself and asked other posters to do the same, would be to exclude the poster from future arguments.
