hi rose - I'm now working on a double CD for Valentine's Day; one with generic second-person type tunes and the other more character specific. So far, I've got:

CD1:

Have I Told You Lately...Dolores Keane
Without the Fanfare...Mary Black
I'm Glad There is You...Nancy LaMott
Someone Like You...Van Morrison
Real Fine Love...Chris Smither
Night Right for Love...Maura O'Connell & Robert Earl Keen
When I Need Some Love...James Talley
I Can't Sleep...Steve Goodman
Misty Roses...Tim Hardin
A Case of You...Diana Krall
When Did You Leave Heaven...Bob Dylan
How Sweet it Is...Jerry Garcia Band
Disappearing Heart...Anne Hills
45 Years...Stan Rogers
I Love You...Sara McLachlan
Have I Told You Lately...Van Morrison

And I'm trying really hard to resist the temptation to end the CD with Jimmy Buffet's "Why Don't We Get Drunk".

CD2 (So far):

Rosie...Tom Waits
Jamaica, Say You Will...Tom Rush
Lover's Lullaby...Townes van Zandt
Song for Katrina...Stever Forbert
Unanswered Prayers...Pat Alger
The Ballad of Elizabeth Dark...Michael Smith
Suzanne...Leonard Cohen
Magnolia...Chris Smither
Jersey Girl...Tom Waits
Bride 1945...Paul Siebel
The Dutchman...Michael Smith

And then once you pointed me in the direction of Tom Waits, I came up with the idea for a CD for my son, who just turned 15 and is counting the days til he gets his driver's permit. A compilation of car songs would be appropriate. A partial list is:

409...Beach Boys
Little Deuce Coupe...Beach Boys
Little GTO...Ronny and the Daytonas
Hey, Little Cobra...The Rip Chords
Mercury Blues...Zero
Ol' 55...Tom Waits
No Money Down...Chris Smither
Hot Rod Lincoln...Bill Kirchen

And I'll also include some cautionary tunes

Teen Angel...Mark Dinning
Tell Laura I Love Her...Ray Peterson
Last Kiss...J Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers
Dead Man's Curve...Jan & Dean
