<"trust me, I'm a professional," or "trust me, I know the background information here and you don't.">

<he has the obligation to convince me>

If not debated in US, this is/was actually one basic issue one democratic systems about 100 years ago.

Or even back to Jefferson and Roussaou, when Roussaue (spelled whatever way it is) dared to claim
that even a young, poor, low-gene girl could learn stuff.

The opposite was pointed out, maybe most famously and humorosly, by Orwell.

That is, the feedback loop of elections, elected, debate, media reporting, commenting and back again.

Ilmarinen

One aspect is that even the most weird should get a chance to talk in congress and thus their time in the media,
but followed up with inter-media debate, and then wait for the next election.

edited "soundbites", on the other hand, seem to go deeper and deeper into orwellianism??
(but few have time for CSPAN)

That is why there is this big debate on the Murdoch and the not so much media, even
democratically regulated, guaranteed for diversity, and funded media in yurope. (how to compete
with he "free" commercial ones, often more entertaining, obviously)

Wolfowitz is indeed a professional, but he's also an ideologue, which complicates matters. He'd be the kind of person who goes to the annual professional meeting and heckles the association leaders. :0)
