I have had several friends who were Swiss. They're whole take re these guns is very different.....its for the defense of their country, not to rob a bank. Its hard to explain the difference in perception.

To which I replied - Almost no gun owners view their guns as something to be used to rob a bank.

Tim, please try to understand that not all gunowners are law abiding people.....there are a number who are bank robbers, drug dealers, murderers etc.

I understand that but it doesn't refute my point. Almost no gun owners view their guns as something to be used to rob a bank. In the 6 states with the highest number of bank robberies (with almost 1/3 the population of the US and a higher then average rate of bank robberies) there was 4464 bank robberies in 1998. There are tens of millions of gun owners (or at least over 10mil) in those six states. If they have have an equal share of the guns in the US they would have over 60 million guns. These figures include all bank robberies not just those with guns (although I would think a majority of bank robbers use guns). Also many bank robbers rob multiple banks per year. The percentage of gun owners that are bank robbers and the percentage of guns used in bank robbery are both so small that it is accurate to say "Almost no gun owners view their guns as something to be used to rob a bank."
