Back briefly to my "Screw the States" Theme. I was scanning last night for various views and tidbits on the 2003 Budget and found my way to the Dallas Morning News. Texas, as far as they're into it, thinks they've made out pretty well; though they are hoping for some plus ups from Congress [greedy SOBs]. The closing paragraph caught my attention. Texas received $106.5 billion in direct federal payments in fiscal year 2000, the most recent year for which figures are available, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. dallasnews.com By coincidence, that $106B in 2000, is pretty close to the proposed/estimated Federal deficit for FY2003. The State of Texas gets ~5% of all Federal expenditures as direct payments to the great state of Texas. True, Texas has 7.5% of the population, but that 5% isn't of all direct payments to States, it's 5% of all Federal expenditures. I have a distinct feeling that the great State of Texas is siphoning off more than it's fair share. Screw the great State of Texas. jttmab
