Stan, and Thread,
So what does this mean. My business is picking up noticeably. It is tech provider in financial services industry. Some of it is coming because weaker vendors are either failing or electing to leave the space voluntarily. My co. is part of a huge well respected firm(conservative accounting). So in a sense we are a gorilla. January was our first profitable month in a long time. Most of the profits really are coming from layoffs. Another round on 1/31 which is expected to be the last. For the first time in a year and a half we have several(4 or 5) deals on the table at once. We will be short staff if we get 3. Prospect list has doubled. Now of course this could be unique to my company, industry etc. I make no claims. All i can say that it is fun to come to work again except for the hours worked that are lengthening again. But on the other hand, my income should return to 1999 levels again this year if it plays out the way i think it will. I would be interested in any and all comments and personal situations that corraborate my observation or not. mike

OT
Last week Wilcousa and i engaged in a friendly discussion regarding the "Axis" of evil. Gottfried suggested we go to the OT thread. I will never argue with G because he is the most civilized member of this thread. I have been having an OT PM dialogue with a few threaders. For the record, i still maintaing that politics just as general economic discussion is an integral part of investment making decisions. I think G was wrong. But i will abide by what the thread thinks.
One suggestion. And let me preface this with a statement that i have nothing but fondness for AD. He treated me well when i almost had my breakdown after 9/11. I consider him a friend but i have him on ignore. Now having said that this will be a bit contreversial. Having him on ignore i find i am missing 2/3 of all posts during the day. For the life of me i dont understand what "scalping" a half point has to do with investing in chip equipments. That to me is truly OT discussion and should be on a separate amat trading thread. Again these are just suggestions. I will muddle thru the best i can. I find my true happiness in life now seeing the world thru the eyes of a 6 month old so this is all small stuff to me. Again i would ask this thread to reevaluate OT policy(you too Mr. G.). It only gets out of hand after tie elections, attacks on the US and when we let personality get in the way. Yes i know that i have been guilty of that at times as well. Have a good day everyone. Mike

Taiwan's stock market will be closed beginning Thursday for the holidays and reopens on February 18.

That's a heck of a long New Year's break for a workaholic nation! <g> Is it their only holiday of the year?
