The problem lies in the administration of collecting the first months service fee. I mean you buy the phone! Now how do you pay for your first months service?

Hadnt thought it through....you are right.

Expecially when we see sub $100 1X phones. Using the Voice Only 1X Asic!

Have they started shipping that yet?

Qualcomm has a bunch of different chipsets coming out over the next year.

The MSM5010 is a low-end 1x chipset with SMS capability. It started sampling in August. It's a little surprising that we havent heard about this chipset going into production yet....but I still think that handsets should be out sometime during the first half of the year.

The MSM6000 and MSM6050 are the first ZIF based chipsets. I think that their will probably be an announcement on sampling at the CTIA (end of Feb.)....and handsets coming out during the late summer/fall timeframe.

Runner-Up anyone?

With the discontent of Verizon over Auction 35 and the Nextwave legal proceedings. And the subsequent crash in Wireless Telecom Stocks. It appears their may be a "no show" crowd to purchase the Auction 35 wins. Should the Supreme Court rule in favor of the FCC.

I went back and documented the licenses that Leap had bid on in Auction 35. But, ended up as only the second highest bidder! Do they reauction if the winning bidder bows out? Or do they decide that the Runner-up gets a chance at the spectrum?

Anyway, It was interesting to see the patterns that developed when combining NTCH's uncontested Auction 35 wins (In Yellow). Which are being traded/bought by Leap, and other 2nd Runner Up markets (Violet and Green) that were bid on by LWIN and NTCH.

When composited together. It shows that their appears to have been an effort to "Box" Devon into their existing territories. And bidding on Roanoak, VA in the heart of Devons Virginia cluster.

NTCH's auction wins YELLOW were around Pittsburgh, and their New York markets of Syracuse, and disputed Auction 35 wins of Albany.

Notice how they clearly try and separate the New England, and Western NY Devon Markets?

NTCH was runner up near other LWIN territories like Paducah, KY, Cleveland, TN

While LWIN was second runner up on Cincinatti, South Bend, Dayton to draw a defensive line on Northcoast.
