It is also a good number for this point in the cycle. This points to a profits recovery sooner than I expected. On the other hand it means weak demand as hours worked are down -- but Wall St. is more worried about profits and there is plenty of liquidity. That was an important number.

The Vix is at a crossroads. finance.yahoo.com^VIX&d=c&k=c2&p=m50,m200 With TYCO calming down -- and lets face it, TYCO was more of a thorn to the market than ENRON at this point -- and with the productivity numbers, I think the fear will not build at this stage and Joe investor will go back to sleep.
