The original work is what I was referring to. The article was interesting. Even if one assumes the material was authentic, which was not fully addressed, I thought Smith's conclusions were laughable. How did he get all that out of so little? It's a good thing he had tenure indeed. C.S. Lewis wrote a very interesting piece about how his own works had been subjected to literary analysis. It's very eye opening. He concludes that in all of the cases he could recall there was not one true insight garnered by any of the analyst. Frankly, they are no better than ice dancing judges and art critics. The better bs'er you are, the more people are likely to say WOW! The scholastic bias that few recognize is that novelty and innovation are what grease the wheels of academia. However novelty and innovation are not conducive to truth, so one inevitably gives way to the other.
