Thanks for the Cato link. While not an unbiased source, I generally find myself in agreement with a number of the pillars of their philosophy.

That said, I would agree that the AMT should be repealed, with the caveat that this should only go forward as long as the abusive tax loopholes the AMT was designed to counter are also eliminated from our outrageously bloated tax code.

As to the waste that Cato discusses, there are two sides to that argument. From the viewpoint of the accountants, the AMT is a full-employment guarantee. Why should they complain? <g>
