Albert, <I recall reading in the news that alchemy run into problems raising next round of venture capital. Which means it was a fire sale and amd got fairly good deal on it.>

Good observations, but unless Alchemy is on the verge of profits, the company will continue to lose money for a while. Only this time, it will be AMD's money instead of venture capital.

Regardless of whether Alchemy will become profitable or not, the cost to AMD is a lot more than the price they're probably paying.

P.S. - Before I get flamed, let me remind everyone that Intel's acquisitions also drained profits for a while after they were acquired. This was John Fowler's biggest pet peeve. ;-)

It is not a good deal when you buy a loser and it then loses your money.

When you tie two rocks together they still sink.
