I think it is very reasonable to assume that banks have large exposure to this industry as a rule (equity and debt) -- what else would you expect? Utilities were much different when this began -- much different -- risk was much lower. There was the occasional boondoggle, but this could often be seen from miles away. That they went for the "new" utility hook, line and skilling is not surprising since they all are safely hedged with a very large Greenspan POOT.

I still think BAC has incurred sizable losses that they are not owning up to ...
