It is not the news so much as to how one interprets it that count. For arguments sake,JPM yesterday denying loss on trading,They state they had no loses trading on tuesday, that does not mean they have not suffered losses on other days,They also said they had no loses on derivatives.
I dont pretend to under stand derivitives well, but do not losses or gains occure only at the the closure of a position?Has JPM closed its positions? I write this with an unsure giggle.

The sheer magnitude of derivatives positions amassed by

We examine the latest bank derivatives data from the OCC.

A long time ago in a galaxy far away, or it least it seems.....

Gold Price Monitor News - JPM to big to bail as well as fail?

From: "cxpowell" <GATAComm@a...> [a.k.a. gata.org]
Date: Feb 8, 2002

Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

Our friend Reg Howe first raised the issue of the disproportionate position
in derivatives of J.P. Morgan Chase.

Today it was the subject of John Crudele's column in the New York Post,
published
just a few blocks from the corner of Broad and Wall Streets.

It's a good bet that it was read by some of the denizens of that neighborhood.

Is J.P. Morgan Chase too big to bail?
