I think you're early imo, more people have to lose their ass there first, there's really been no washout there in a long time and reality is going to bite them soon enough. their currency could friggin fall apart and you're looking long equities? Why not invest in argentina, probably similar risk, maybe even less ground to give up there.

I bought some JEQ yesterday, just to get located. I don't like the P/Es that I still see on Japanese stocks, but a small position helps anchor one's perspective.

Re Japan: I'm watching Sony (SNE) a great consumer company which would do very well with a weak Yen.
Technically it still has more work to do.

Re Argentina:YPF - As a country that has broken down completely economically, combined with a play on the oil recovery due to either problems in the middle east or long term recovery of consumer demand. The stock is basing and bears continued attention.
