Interesting about CREE. If someone builds an affordable lightbulb that uses 5% of the energy of current bulbs and puts out equivalent light, it will be time to short the power producers with all possible cash! I have the small flourescents. I like the white light they put out because it is very easy to read by. Many people prefer the dingy yellow light put out by incandescent bulbs. When I replaced the bulbs I frequently use my electricity consumption dropped by about 20%. Oddly, replacing my 30 year old refrigerator with a new LARGER energy efficient one dropped electricity usage by over 30%. The trend towards LCD displays is also picking up. They use almost no energy relative to CRT monitors.

John, Long time oil biz threads lurker. CREE has been one of my favorite 'buy and forget's for two or three years. Their expertise, silicon carbide electronics grade material, and products producible from it, is difficult to argue with. --High temperature operation --Relatively 'hard' against radioactivity. --Excellent power saving characteristics. --Power rectifiers. --et al They're working on a blue laser which could do great things for CD/DVD capacity. Others which have slipped my mind, make it a company worth a look. Am long them, within my means. By way of reference, I'm also long EEE, KEG, HC, HAL, and some tiny E&Ps Lee
