Tony: Cisco already offers competing products in Media Gateways and softswitches. What is it that Sonus has that Cisco, with their vast cash resources, can't develop on their own? Why would they need Sonus?

Good question. First, CSCO's main province where VoIP is concerned is in the Enterprise. They've made very little head-way in Carrier class 5 end-office switch arena. Sonus has a product in that area purported to be best in class. So, with their vast cash resources why couldn't CSCO develop on their own? They could, but it'd take time. More time than waiting to determine which one of several softswitch providers end up becoming the standard (this will probably come clear the latter half of this year).

I figure CSCO, with that cash horde, will probably buy their way into the sector, thus complementing their Enterprise product line(s). CSCO's history proves them more than capable of executing along these lines. Of course, this doesn't mean it's going to be Sonus. But then again......

John~

Cisco products that compete with Sonus are full of bugs and crashes quite often. They need to harden them and make robust and stable.
