Funny thing is, both issues (inherent conflicts of interest in the accounting industry - opposed by ex Chairman Levitt) and offshore Limited Partnership loopholes in the ICA (granted by Levitt's SEC to Enron) are POLITICAL and ECONOMIC.

Kind of hard to separate the political from the economic when so much campaign contribution slush ties them together :)

>>You and Zoltan are arguing two separate but linked issues. He is focused on the political issue. You are focused on the business issue.

No, I focused on the actual issue.

The downfall of Enron was related to the exemption - not any hypothetical conflict of interest on the part of accountants everywhere. That kind of fuzzy logic is what is causing the markets to be skittish. The charlatans are seeing Enrons everywhere.

Ipso facto, w/o the exemption - no management partnerships, - no offshore means to hide the debt - no downfall. Enron's problems began and ended with that exemption.
