Fab25 should be able to make at least 1.4 GHz, and possibly 1.5 GHz Athlons. The only potential problem with a Fab25 Duron hitting this clock rate is the lower voltage of Duron.

John, Re: < Well I think most of the Durons being sold now are 1 to 1.3 GHz, and I don't think Fab 25 can even make them. I agree that whatever Mhz Fab25 can make, they should sell as Athlons rather than Durons.>

Well, that's an interesting point of view! I was under the impression that AMD had quit making Athlons in Texas and wasn't making Durons in Germany. I don't know where or how I came to that impression so it may well be wrong.

Can someone help me with the fact(s) of the matter?

Re: <I think Q1 will be a stalement for market share. AMD will continue to lose perhaps 1% in desktop share,...>

I'd be very surprised to see AMD lose desktop share. Remember the big Celeron sale last Q in Asia for low $? I'm thinking it was Intel undercutting Via and selling Celerons at under $15 each. How many chips? It would be an interesting question for a Q&A. My guess, however, is that both AMD and INTC will be scrapping some inventory this Q.

Low priced chips to Asia will be as required to put the screws to Via. Via may give up on it for Intellectual rights to current and future chipsets.

But IMO, the XT, M, and A4 Mobile series are devastatingly successful in terms of performance and I doubt their market share increases can be slowed below manufacturing capability. I believe that at this point Intel can effect pricing of these chips, but no longer the volume if they choose to remain nominally profitable.

As far as 2200+, I'm of the opinion that AMD will release is 'as required'.

Petz,

Well I think most of the Durons being sold now are 1 to 1.3 GHz, and I don't think Fab 25 can even make them. I agree that whatever Mhz Fab25 can make, they should sell as Athlons rather than Durons.

I think someone (Dan3?) pointed out that even the 1.3 GHz Durons are still made in Austin. Maybe one way to slowly de-emphesize Duron, AMD should stop new speedgrades, for a while, and continue to sell lower speed Athlons.
