In the context of a discussion of conflict of interest, which is how we started, I am sure you can forgive my mistake.

I am not as keen on consensus as you are. Consensus as a guiding aim can too easily sacrifice truth to the need to find a formulation that is agreeable. I also doubt that it is anyone's job to persuade those who are likely to be relentlessly "con", and not all differences are splittable. So, I do not mind at all the idea of coming in with views and trying to gain support. I thought that is what one was supposed to do in politics.

I don't think so.

(I recall clearly that JLA also thought that was a mistake.)

My objection is based upon my feeling that the calculus of the matter is such that it is best not to give the leftwing media hounds something to chew over which is probably not real important in the long run and grand scheme of things since they can be counted on to report the matter irresponsibly....
