Funny you should ask that question as I just got off the phone with my Schwab trading desk asking the same question.

The answer was "who knows". LOL

With the market being so screwed up right now it is anybody's guess as to who is buying and selling. The small trades that you see going thru (particularly thru the ECN's) are generally fake bids and asks. Some you will see get filled and others you will see suddenly disappear. If there are large bids you will see a 200 to 400 bid come in just over the large bid trying to force the larger order to move up. Same on the ask side trying to drive the ask lower and thus the bid side also.

We have constantly blamed the market maker firms for this "manipulation", but according to the Schwab people this is not the case. They blame it on smaller brokers and individuals that have learned to play a dirty little games either on the short or long side.

Basically, like Sergio has said "you might as well bet on Tootsie in the 8th race."

As I have said before remember the reason that you bought the stock in the first place. Average down if you still believe in the stock. Cut your losses if something changes your view of the stock, other than the manipulation of the price.
