I must say I don't consider this "mild." At least one reason to expect that a former executive of ANY industry, business, or profession MIGHT consider the perspectives of those outside that purview or of the country at large is that while an executive of a business you have a legal duty to represent the interests of the shareholders of your company, while as President you have a duty to represent the citizens and interests of the country.

I think the question is in what we mean by "expect." History tells me that when parties come into power they do all they can to advantage their political constituency. When the other party comes into power, it does all it can to "catch up" it's constituency. Therefore, I fully expect a Bush Administration to promote the interests of energy providers. That's what I meant by "expect." I was responding to Neo's use of the word, which I took to mean not surprising or out of the ordinary. There was nothing surprising or out of the ordinary about the energy plan. The only thing that stood out about it was the way people clammed up about the task force. If they hadn't done that, I wouldn't have given it another thought.

I expect Presidents to implement their platforms. Bush is doing that. Clinton would never have run on an Arkansas-first platform.

I am a certifiable cynic about politicians. I'm an equal opportunity cynic--no partisanship here. If by "expect" we're talking about what I might hope for, that's another matter.
