Also even if they are wrong they are not fantasy but are based on the best research available, there could be a reason why all of the research in this area is all flawed but I don't think this should be the default assumption.

Tim, I didn't make that clear. I think the fantasy thinking is with the gun owners........they may see themselves as modern day heroes so when the family dog is threatened by a fox and they shoot the fox, that's one DGU.

I know several people who own multiple guns....they are good guys and they shoot well. If someone were in trouble and they could help by wounding the assailant, they would. However, not one has ever had to fire their weapon outside of hunting and target practice. I asked one of them earlier today what he thought of those statistics and he didn't buy them either.

That doesn't mean I am right; its just that I can't believe those numbers are anywhere close to the truth. I would have to see more visual proof of such actions to believe them. In fact, I just realized until you posted that article the other day, I had never heard of a gun owner saving someone from harm with his/her gun. You did say that those things are not pointed out in articles......but I think I would have heard of at least one by now.
