Engineering can be very demanding. I remember talking to a 60s era NASA engineer. He told me how the divorce rate for his colleagues went through the roof. The '69 moonshot was an amazing accomplishment for the time.

A bit of trivia for those who may not remember, Apollo 1 caught on fire during tests. Flight numbers 2-6 were skipped and the first Apollo flight to launch was Apollo 7.
