OK. We agree. Kinda, sorta.

Except for "arrogant, dismissive" part. Unlike the Clinton Administration, I actually believe the players in this Administration are sincere when they exert a privilege for the sake of a principle related to the office instead of trying to cover up someone's sorry lying ass....And I will keep believing that until I am proven wrong.

Executive privilege, in the same light, is often enough the last refuge of scoundrels that it's hard to look innocent standing up for that in principle.
Probably the most infamous claim of that privilege was the one made by Nixon in an attempt to blockade the Watergate investigation.

After that, it's been very hard to assert it and look innocent.

My side of the line is well known. But I've got a feeling the reason the claim of executive privilege is being made in this case isn't innocence and it isn't to protect the POTUS.
