To be specific, it is the official British government policy statement.

Bear in mind that you are fighting uphill in this debate. Anything the British government said or did that violated the rights of the indigenous population can be thrown out the window of this debate, for obvious reasons. But, any instance in which the British government in its imperial quest actually respected the rights of the indigenous people speaks volumes.
