Hello Lorne,

I, like you, am trying to understand Islam. 9/11 sent me searching the Koran for a better understanding into this foreign religion. I really do not see the appeal, but a co-worker of mine has become more and more interested in the Muslim faith. We have had many discussions about the Muslim faith. So you see, there are Americans that are becoming Muslim after 911. Whether or not they are truly Americans is up for discussion, but the fact remains that he grew up in America, so he is by birth an American.

My pastor back in my home town was a missionary in the phillipines. He lived with a muslim family for a year. I have spoken to him on a few occasions regarding my co-worker and the faith itself. He made the point to me that one of the reasons the Muslim people hate us (Americans) so much, and especially hate Christians is because in the Muslim culture there is no seperation of church and state. No seperation of religion from any of the everyday workings of life. They are politically Muslim, religiously Muslim, militarily Muslim, etc... This sheds some light on why they hate Americans. We claim to be a Christian nation. For you see, our founding fathers were Christian men. Muslims believe people of the same religion begat the same religion. A muslim family has a muslim child. A Christian family has a Christian child. They do not understand that America is a secular society, not a Chrsitian society. They see our actions, our television (MTV, media) and our presence in their holy places and cities. SO in their eyes, Americans are evil, and even more to the point, Christians. They do not understand that government and religion are two seperate entities. That is a foreign concept to them. Being the religious zealots that many Muslims in the Middle East are, they feel it is their duty to rid the world of Big Satan (U.S.A.) Regardless if we choose to call this war a religious battle or not, that is precisely how they see it. Jihad is a very powerful word to a Muslim. No Muslim is guaranteed salvation. He must work for it. However, to die a matyr is the only sure way to enter heaven. That is what we are up against.

Speaking of heaven, their concept is another strange thing to me. They believe they will have an unending supply of virgins and food. All physical pleasures. This is very appealing to a young man who is hungry and has nothing to live for. By his death, he not only gains all that he could desire from a physical point of view, but his family gains honor by his sacrifice.

The Muslim religion was set up to be a religion that spreads by force. It is an opressive religion that lacks the love that they claim to have for others.

Being a Christian, I believe it goes deeper than all of this. I believe Muslims deny Jesus Christ and are a form of anti-christ religion. I won't go any further down that road because I realize not everyone shares my beliefs. But, in the end, I believe their religion to be evil, created by the god of this world.

There are so many more levels to be touched on. I welcome any and all opinions.
