Iraq, and the wider Arab world were threatened and humiliated by the West who were going to impose upon them a "State" that was not welcomed and was foisted upon them over their objections. More than that, anyone who could claim to be a Jew, or make a large enough "Contribution" to the new "State", thus becoming a Jew, would have open immigration to this new "State". The initial threat and provocation was to create Israel over the objection of the Arab people. You are blaming the victim.

If you believe the Zionist's Hollywood version of the story, the Israelis had only converted school busses for military equipment, and like the story of the parting of the Red Sea, they defeated an Arab army who were well-equipped themselves. Another miracle or Public Relations spin?

It surely was an affront to the Arabs that they were whipped by the Israelis, but it was not the Israelis that they were defeated by, but by Western arms and financing. Those contemptible Jews (your words), were Westerners....colonists!

"This picture of a Western-funded goliath is completely ahistorical. In fact, in the 40s and 50s, all socialists and other left-wingers supported Israel as a socialistic, plucky little underdog. (Why do I think you might have been among them if we'd been arguing then?)"

I am not a socialist, but we should consider that many of the socialists and left-wingers you refer to were probably pro-Zionist Jews, who overlooked imperialism their left-wing analysis. No one is perfect.

"If there had been no war, there would have been no refugees. "

Blaming the victims again?

If there had been no partition there would have been no war, and no refugees. And the American taxpayer would not be financing "charitable"institutions that funnel money to Israel for settlements, New York Advertising executives to re-educate us on the only democracy in the Middel East, and armaments to bomb nuclear reactors in other countries, blowup buildings, assassinate yet innocent civilians and generally create terror in the name of defense.
