What aspect of SUBSIDIZED rice has anything to do with free trade?

The 1985 Farm Bill in the United States increased subsidies to the rice industry, at the same time the US was demanding that Haiti drop tariffs and such which protected their rice industry. It is somehow OK for us to protect farmers, but not for them. If you do not see the injustice here, then no words I speak will do so.
