Nokia confirmed its position as mobile master with 35.6 percent, followed by Motorola, 15.7 percent. (DI - Dagens Industri). >> It will be most interesting to see if Gartner Dataquest and/or ARC Group confirm this. Reuters just made the statement that "the daily Dagens Industri newspaper, citing its own figures and data from market research group Gartner Dataquest, said Samsung's market share increased to 7.5 percent in 2001 from 5.0 percent in 2000" , so perhaps DI IS actually basing on Gartner Dataquest, although the Reuters blurb has even less detail than the DI clip you post. This is the way Gartner Dataquest had the numbers for the first 3 quarters of 2001: Q101 Q201 Q301 Nokia 35.3% 34.8% 33.4% Motorola 13.2% 14.8% 15.7% Ericsson 6.8% 8.3% 8.0% Samsung 4.8% 6.8% 7.5% Siemens 6.9% 7.9% 7.2% Through Q3 2001 Gartner Dataquest had 2001 YTD market share calculated as: Nokia 34.0% Motorola 17.1% Ericsson 7.7% Siemens 7.2% Samsung 7.0% I'd like to see more detail on DI's numbers and it will be interesting to compare them when Gartner and ARC release year ending numbers. Their is always a discrepancy between handset sales from various houses, but in the main Gartner Dataquest's seem to be the most widely accepted. Regardless, Samsung had a great year, and if they overtook Ericsson a stunning 4th quarter, and it is interesting that VoiceStream is now selling Samsung's first GSM GPRS WorldPhone (dual-band 900/1900 MHz) and VoicStream has no Ericsson or Nokia GPRS model in their lineup as of yet.Message 17020422 Best - Eric -
