I don't think government should offer "handouts" for people who don't need them. But the definition of "handouts" is pretty amorphous. We might be using the same term but having different connotations when we use it.

And, I don't think that all conservatives are rich, either. There are conservative people who need "handouts" in the form of various social services, etc. and qualify for them. Liberals don't have a monopoly, ya know.

In the context of subsidies to farmers, I'm sure the farmers don't see them as "handouts," but rather other things -- including a partial return of taxes they've paid, and a means of getting them to produce things in the quantities we need that wouldn't be economically feasible to do if the free market reigned. That's what subsidies are for.

And, I don't see tax deductions or tax cuts as "handouts," because it's allowing people to keep more of THEIR money, not vice-versa. Today's left wing notion that all wealth and opportunity emanates from the government is Anti-American bunk, directly contrary to the principles of the founding fathers, who wisely reserved to the People -- as individuals -- all rights that were not specifically and narrowly granted to the government.

This is getting a little long and broad, and I've got to get some stuff done before the weekend, so I'd better stop. Talk w/you later.
