Some agency is coming out with a report pointing out Qcom does off sheet financing. Which we all know, but I dont think the market is taking it to well.

What exactly is considered off-balance sheet?

Qualcomm has invested in a couple of venture funds (Inquam and a South Korean one) and a bunch of operators. All of this is pretty well laid out. Though I guess the venture funds turn around and invest in companies and that might be considered off-balance sheet.

can anybody refresh my recollection as to (1) how much off-sheet financing is being done; (2) to what extent is this disclosed and quantified in the financials; and (3) what is Q's maximum exposure?

IMHO, we have a point of panic and irrationality which is the reverse on the downside of the "irrational exuberance" that created the bubble on the upside. Now, as soon as anyone raises the spectre of "accounting issues," no matter whether there is any quantification of the exposure, or the type of issues, or the degree of disclosure, people bail in a panic. IMHO, this can be used to manipulate a stock downward. I am not sure how long this will go on, but it will end at some point for companies that have not really been manipulative.

I hope that's Q. If I thought for a minute that management lacked integrity I would get out.
