how did Terry McAuliffe make ...
I would presume he was an "angel" investor, one who put his money in before the IPO, but it is possible that he had primarily options or used margin. I really don't know. I made 10 times on some of my investments, I just didn't put as much money into them (and didn't always sell at the right time either).

RE:how did Terry McAuliffe make 1800% on his investment?

I think you are underestimating the return.

$20 million back from 100,000 = 19,900,000/100,000 X 100 = 19,900%

Or, put another way, his original investment was returned to him TWO HUNDRED times!

"how did Terry McAuliffe make 1800% on his investment?"

I think it was 18 THOUSAND percent. Is my math wrong, or yours?

18,000,000 / 100,000 = 180 times 100% = 18,000%

Nice return, if you can get it.
