Joe- don't believe everything the doctors tell you is my advice- they are too busy to really care, you have to just use them as consultants and learn as much about your fathers condition as you can. (In Canada anyways).

My father had his stomach removed over 3 years ago (total gastrectomy) due to cancer and he is still here. They told him he was done at that time.

We got him out of the small town and got the best medical care we could.
In my experience small town doctors just aren't as good as doctors in bigger centres.

Best of luck-
P

Joe, Don't make yourself crazy reading articles on the Internet. There are so many and all it will do is confuse you.
Speak to your Dad's doctor and get all the answers that you need from him/her. Each patient is different.
If it does turn out that way just know that you have this time with him. Use it to the fullest.
My Mom died suddenly and there was so much I still needed to say to her.
Susie
edit: after reading other people's thoughts, I should paraphrase my post. What I meant by reading things online is that each case is different and it might not pertain to your father but you should definitely check out which hospitals and doctors have the best available treatments.
