Couple of points:

-It does not mean you can't have both, on-die cache and mem. controller
-I doubt Banias will have SMP capability
-Didn't Intel stop providing SMP ability in desktop P4s? Or was it just the Socket-423
-what does hyperthreading have to do with anything, especially Banias?

Maybe you haven't gotten to the followon post yet where I tried to clarify. I was talking generically. I wasn't talking about Banias, but to address your points:

Yes you can have both a ondie cache and ondie MC but you have restricted your ability to do SMP without a FSB. Timna had no external FSB.

Regarding Banias and SMP, I can't comment.

I think Intel stopped supporting SMP for desktop but it may still work if you can find a MB. I really don't know.

Hyperthreading was just something I tossed in while we were talking about the limitations of no SMP with a ondie MC.
