Many of the elderly rich live off mountains of dividend checks. And after owning some of these stocks for decades (like IBM from the 1920s) they are unwilling to sell due to the gains involved. Let alone figuring out the cost basis of these stocks that have morphed through 9 different companies and names due to buyoffs and spinoffs.

And they have no idea whatsoever what to do and rely totally on the big firm advisors.
