seems to be wide difference of oppinion.

A.G. Edwards reiterated its "hold" rating on Providian's and said that management's quick actions greatly reduced the likelihood the company would file for bankruptcy.

But Jeffries & Co. reiterated its "sell" rating on Providian's stock and lowered its earnings per-share forecast for fiscal 2002 to breakeven from 75 cents.

"I believe that they have a long road ahead of them," said Jennifer Scutti of CIBC World Markets, who took note of some positive points that Providian can point to.

"I think that Providian is out of the woods, at least for the near term, with respect to liquidity and capital constraints," Scutti said. "I think they're in a strong enough cash position to continue as a going concern."

I cked the research page. this year $1.72 EPS, next year $0.05. why the big drop for next year?
