I was wondering if the Japanese buying gold was a good sign or not.

When did they all start buying stocks? Well about the worst time in the last 100 years to buy a stock market- the Nikkei in 1988-89.

When did they all start buying real estate- about the top of the largest real estate bubble of all time.

Frankly- I wouldn't bet on the Japanese public to be right on gold any more than anything else- As a matter of fact, if they all start buying something- I would run the other way. They have an uncanny knack for creating bubbles and bursting them.

On the bullish side- If it really takes off as an investment with the Japanese public, we could see the biggest gold bubble in history. Those $1000/oz. targets may be too low.

If the Japanese housewives are buying though- I'm staying away from it. It's too near a top. Is it housewives buying now, or just the wealthy protecting their assets?
