Dan,

I'm a little embarrassed to say that my fastest home machine, an Athlon 1.4GHZ with 512meg of DDR266 and a 40gig 7200RPM drive is running a SiS 6326 video card that cost $39 a couple of years ago. But it does up to 1600x1200 and all I do is 2D graphics and text (at home).

No need to be embarrassed. Even though the card is based on very old chip, from one of the cheapest suppliers, it is an older design that Intel's design, it still beats Intel 815.

Just review the posts of Intel posters. They are proud of this Intel creation, as they are of any current Intel creation (It's a company policy). They will be allowed to badmouth it soon though. In about 3 months, Intel supporters will be allowed to say that the graphics in 815, the worst in the industry is a POS.

Well, unless 845G is delayed. If it is, 815 will have to remain a fine product, filling the need, and Intel supporters will have to say that they are satisfied with it. Because saying otherwise could be against company policy and could cost them their posting privileges.

BTW, SIS 6326 based cards support 16bit (64K colors) color at 1600 x 1200 at refresh rate of 75 Hz. 815 can't do colors over 8 bit (256 color) at 1600x1200.

Dan, re:<SiS video card> I've seen a 128M SiS video card in that $39 price range. What's the point of 128M of graphics memory?
