Jer,

MP3s are alive and well and downloading to machines all across the globe as we speak

many here like Morpheus..nice interface and you can get info about the files prior to DLing them...you can also hear what's already been acquired while it's still downloading through the "preview" tab on the MORPH program. That's the thing I like best about MORPHEUS..sometimes a snippet is all you need to tell that the audio isn't up to your standards..also on occasion the same bad file, ie pops or incomplete, is available and you can try to avoid getting it again in your quest to get a better version

the bitrate is important...never choose a file less than 128

I like Audiogalaxy the best..it has a copyright protection deal with some artists so not all files are available, but the interface is great..webpage

since these are peer to peer programs and there is no central server there is virtually no way they can shut them down

both are a simple program download with good explanations of how to etc

you will need some sort of software to convert the MP3s to .wav format in order to record them for non-PC usage prior to burning

here's what's available as far as peer to peer programs..Morph is #1 and Audiogalaxy is #5 on that list

good luck...we'll try to help with any questions

caution: this is habit forming..every song you ever heard, wanted to hear, or haven't heard in 30 years but need to hear is available somewhere

download.cnet.com

ps--most, if not all, of the MP3s I post are from my CD collection..I convert them to Mp3 and then upload to my space
