I read the referenced story in the Register. Somehow I missed any connection between Enron's actions and observed DRAM prices. It may well be there. I just didn't see it.

I need to overcome a couple of beliefs:

1. DRAM prices were forced down to untenable levels because of a glut.
2. Prices rose after XP was released.
