Hou On yesterday's article, Northwood overclocking, I asked users for their feedback and their success stories for Northwood overclocking. Here are some of the comments I received from our readers. Looks pretty promising for both the 1.6A and 1.8A's: This one from Jeff: I just purchased an MSI 845 ultra mb and an Intel 1.6a chip. I am running it with the stock heatsink and fan at 2.133ghz, 133 bus with two 512meg sticks of Infineon PC2100 DDR ram. It runs perfectly at 1.5v. I have already used it for games developement and compiling a map for 15hrs at 100% cpu didn't faze it at all...a great overclock. I just pu another 1.6a this pm with another MSI board for my wife...hopefully it will run as flawlessly as this one does... This one from Toby: The short and sweet version. I have a MSI 845i ultra MB, 512 MB Crucial 2100 DDR(2x256), and a 1.6a P4. I have been running perfectly stable with the stock HSF at 149 FSBx16= 2384. I am quite sure the only thing limiting me going higher is the memory. 149 is the same I got using my epox and soyo dragon+ with amd xp 1700+. I just ordered some pc333 DDR so I can test this theory next week. From Tom: I have a AVC Cooler (the Sunflower) and a Abit BD7, No real tweaks 2558 Mhz with a 142 FSB on a 1.8 Ghz Retail Proc, straight from azzo.com, i cant complain, i think and it loads, and im sure as soon as i get a peltier itll go higher, but till then, this is fantastic for air cooled, plus many hit around 2400, (i work at a mom and pap computer shop), anyway, feel free to email me if your interested in shots/specs btw memory is set to DDR 266 timing, so its +33 mhz on the 142mhz fsb for ddr, its astick of crucial 512 pc2100 (those guys kick ass, micron 7.5e chips), till next time, Tom Shaun's got a 1.6A too: My brother and I bought one of these from MWave, and received it a couple days ago. Once the dust settled, and all was said and done, here are our results: 147FSB; CPU speed = 2352MHz Crazy stuff! We are using nearly the same setup as you mentioned on your page; the MSI 645 Ultra board (which I now love to death!) and the stock Intel HSF unit. We aren't using PC2700 memory, though. We're using standard Crucial PC2100, at the 645 Ultra's 1:1 memory setting, so the memory and FSB are both at 147MHz. And if you cared, here's the spec off the side of our P4 box. FPO# L147B201 - we got a week 47CPU, as opposed to your week 51 I think these are still pretty widely available in the US and I'm saying it again, the Low Frequency Northwoods are great for those who love to overclock :) accelenation.com
