Living in Europe (UK) myself I would say you are pretty close to correct in your statement. Right now everyone thinks Bush is saber rattling when he talks about the axis of evil (wish he would not use the word evil myself). Americans knows he means it and will support him. I was in the US for his State of the Union speach and thought it was very powerful. It will be a test for the US and the rest of the world to keep it together.

The build up of the US military is causing concerns as well, which caught me off guard.

Anyway, no matter how you cut it, the dollar is going to take a fall I think. Euporeans are embracing the Euro by all accounts. It looks like it will eventually challenge the dollar as a reserve, at least in Europe.
